When hands and fingers are too little to be able to maintain that traditional piano hand position….and yet there is musicality wanting to come forward. What to do?
This is where use of just one or two fingers comes in for a while.
If the child is allowed to follow their own instinct in terms of picking out sounds and notes and just having fun with that so many foundational musical abilities can develop eg. a sense of pitch, rhythm, the ability to hear and imitate, a sense of piano geography and the relationship between different notes.
And gradually more fingers can be added – and that traditional hand position can build.
